Bree Iskandar is a news intern at STAT as part of the AAAS Mass Media Fellowship. She is finishing up her Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she researches ways to improve high-throughput screening platforms used in early-stage drug discovery. She has worked in multiple stages of the drug development pipeline through internships at Merck, Amgen, and Gilead. At UNC, she is the content editor for the university's graduate student science writing blog, The Pipettepen. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, doting on her cat, and crushing escape rooms.
