Daniel Dawes

An attorney and expert on health policy, Dawes is the leader of Meharry’s newly established Global Health Equity Institute. He’s charged with creating a plan to launch a school of global public health by 2026, which Meharry says will be the first such school at a historically Black institution. Long an advocate of better access to health care for African Americans and other underserved groups, Dawes plans to hire 21 faculty members and seek accreditation for the school, which he said will advance Meharry’s mission “to serve the underserved and achieving equitable health outcomes for all populations, no matter their circumstances.”
