When Bibbins-Domingo took over last year as editor-in-chief of JAMA, she became the first person of color to lead the prestigious medical journal and its network of publications. It’s a dream job for the physician, cardiovascular researcher, and former chair of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, who aims to push the journals she leads to bring in new voices and remain relevant to the issues facing medicine and science and today, from scientific misinformation to open access to chatbots serving as co-authors. Her contributions to advancing cardiac science through population studies earned Bibbins-Domingo, who is trained in epidemiology and is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, the American Heart Association’s 2022 Population Research Prize. This is the second year in a row she’s appeared on the STATUS List.
